Journey Project: Initial and Thematic Research

Kevin Parry

Kevin Parry is a social media influencer based in Toronto, Canada, who creates stop motion animation. He does lots of work with illusions within his animation. He has worked on several animated feature films, and a reel of his work can be viewed here.

I found a video from Parry called Skateboard Stop Animation, in which he depicts a journey on a skateboard, with a path outlined with white tape on the floor. He uses stop motion to show him riding along, and shows the thought process and story board of his stop motion later on in the video.

With over one million subscribers across social media platforms, Parry has a large following from his imagination and animation talent.

Jean Jullien

Jean Jullien is a French visual artist and graphic designer based in Paris. From photography, media, clothing, illustration and painting, his work has been exhibited in galleries worldwide. Jullien has illustrated several books and published his own. Via a commission from the National Geographic, he created work titled, ‘On The Road to Big Sur’, in which he left for Los Angeles for six months, and created cartographical and location based artwork, including paper characters photographed in different locations in LA.

Ememem

Ememem is an anonymous French street artist who repairs worn streets with beautiful mosaics. Ememem started his mission in 2016, and has since coined the term ‘flacking’, ‘the art of repairing holes’. His work embraces sparkling gemstones and sophisticated colour pallets. Away from the street, Ememem replicates his repairs in his studio, and exhibits them in galleries across the globe.

Thematic Research

As a class, we gathered our ideas for what ideas we had on the theme Journey, project and outcome-wise.

The first mind-map was created with the class, the second is my own mind-map with the ideas that I liked most, and the third explores the different mediums I could produce my outcomes with.
