Designer Research: Eleanor Bowmer

Eleanor Bowmer is an illustration and textile design studio that began in 2015 in Manchester. Eleanor began selling prints via ‘Not On The High Street’, where she sold pet portraits, prints, and tea towels. Later, she started an Instagram account to promote her products. Eleanor amassed a great number of followers and product orders by sending freebies to large accounts, who then featured her. She began selling more products, and today, has her own studio, and her products are sold at John Lewis, Oliver Bonas, Paperchase and Selfridges (to name a few).

I’ve been aware of Eleanor Bowmer’s work for a few years, from seeing her products in shops. I love the bold palettes and artwork her products have. Some pieces are simple and effective, whereas others are more detailed; I love and really admire the variety, and this is also the way I tend to produce work. I’ve been interested by her realistic subjects in the repeat patterns from her ‘Miami Shells’ and ‘Green Palms’ range. I’d love to learn how to replicate that style in my own work.

Aside from that, Eleanor’s ‘Dalmatian Dot’ pattern is a signature of her brand, and the aesthetics speak for themselves, paired with gold foil and baby pink detailing.

The ‘Magic Eyes’ range is another thing that really caught my eye; the design is very creative in the way the different eyes look, with lots of flat, bold colour.
